This webinar will provide in-depth insights from leading experts on individual FCR (Fear of Cancer Recurrence) measures, including their mechanisms, applications, psychometric properties, advantages, limitations, and relevant cultural adaptations.
Attendees are expected to gain comprehensive knowledge of key FCR measures directly from subject matter experts, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their appropriate implementation in clinical and research settings.
Speaker Biographies:
Christine Maheu: She is recognized for developing and evaluating innovative, theory-driven interventions that improve psychosocial and functional outcomes among cancer survivors. She co-developed and empirically validated FORT, one of the most rigorously tested interventions for FCR, and led the development of iCanWork, Canada’s first structured RTW intervention for cancer survivors. She also developed patient-reported outcome measures, including the one-item FCR screener (FCR-1) and the Cancer and Work Scale (CAWSE), a validated assessment tool now used in survivorship research and practice.
Jose Custer: She is a senior researcher at the Department of Medical Psychology at Radboud University Medical Centre and a lecturer at Radboud University, Nijmegen, in the Netherlands. Her research focuses on psychological mechanisms playing a role in the management of life-threatening, chronic, or rare diseases. Relatively new concepts are fear of disease/cancer progression, scanxiety and (in)tolerance of uncertainty. Jose combines her fundamental and methodological background with clinically oriented research, being ambitious and feeling inspired to follow the route from conceptualization of disease-related psychological constructs to implementation of evidence-based interventions into supportive care models.
Sébastien Simard: PhD-trained cognitive-behavioral psychologist licensed in Quebec and supported early in his career by prestigious national fellowships from both provincial and federal research bodies (FRSQ-FCAR and CIHR), he has accumulated over two decades of expertise working with patients facing serious chronic illnesses. He is a recognized authority in the psychological dimensions of chronic illness, with a research agenda addressing fear of cancer recurrence, psychological distress assessment and intervention, healthy lifestyle promotion, and interdisciplinary care models — areas of growing critical importance in contemporary health systems.
