Dr. Veronica Cardenas is the Founder and CEO of the Center for Psycho-Oncology Care. She brings a wealth of experience from her previous role as Professor and Medical Director at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and as Director of Psychiatry and Psychology Services at Moores Cancer Center. Dr. Cardenas completed an NIH Predoctoral Clinical Research Fellowship at Stanford University and an NIH Postdoctoral Geriatric Psychiatry Research Fellowship at UCSD. She joined the UCSD faculty in 2011, where she became a pivotal figure in psycho-oncology, serving as Director of Psycho-Oncology Education and Training at Moores Cancer Center. In this role, she mentored psychology trainees, interns, and medical students, focusing on cancer survivorship, end-of-life, and palliative care. Her research has been dedicated to developing, testing, and implementing psychosocial treatment interventions, with funding support from the National Cancer Institute, the UCSD Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion, and the American Cancer Society. In 2023, Dr. Cardenas founded the Center for Psycho-Oncology Care to address the growing need for high-quality psycho-oncology services.
