Overall Goal: To train attendees on best-practices in psycho-oncology in African oncology settings
IPOS has developed, in close partnership with partner organizations in Africa, an IPOS Pan-African Capacity-Building in Psycho-Oncology ECHO. Key benefits of ECHO are: 1) To build capacity for comprehensive cancer care in Africa through dissemination of best practices in psycho-oncology; 2) To hear worldwide experts on state-of-the art psycho-oncology practice; 3) To connect with other professionals in oncology and create a community of practice allowing for rich mutual learning and clinical discussions; and 4) To provide consultation and support in creating local program development planning in psycho-oncology.

This ECHO will deliver training in evidence-based practices through monthly meetings over the course of one year. Each meeting lasts 1h30-2h and will be on a different topic in psycho-oncology. First, there will be a presentation by an international speaker, then a participant will present a case relevant to the lecture, and third there will be a case discussion led by the lecturer and a panel of experts in the field. Participants in the program will be professional working in direct clinical contact with cancer patients in Africa in a field appropriate to the field of psycho-oncology (e.g., physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers).
Applications are now opened for the program. Kindly complete the scholarship application, which will be peer-reviewed. Eligibility criteria are found below. Applications will only be accepted if they are received at your earliest convenience before May 27, 2022 to the following e-mail address: [email protected]. Applications must include the fully completed Application Form including the checklist and a five-page Curriculum Vitae for the applicant.

IPOS is the sole multidisciplinary international charitable organization devoted to psycho-oncology, leading in education, research, training, public policy, and advocacy. In 2014, IPOS celebrated its 30th anniversary and IPOS holds non-state actor status with the World Health Organization (WHO). Part of our mission is to build capacity for cancer care in low- and low-middle income countries including in Africa. IPOS includes 40+ member countries from 6 continents.

IPOS will only be able to answer any questions related to this call for applications from April 11th to 22th, after which IPOS will no longer be able to answer. After the May 27 deadline, the only correspondence the applicants will receive is the result of the competition. Participants should anticipate receiving the results by the last week of May. If you have not received a response, please check the IPOS website to know if there has been a delay in the processing of the applications. If you have not received a letter of offer by the last week of May, unless otherwise indicated on the IPOS website, it means that you were not selected to participate in this ECHO.
HOW TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION?
All applications must include a fully completed and signed Applicant Waiver Form as well as a letter of attestation of your employment from your institution confirming that you are working in direct clinical contact with cancer patients in Africa. Incomplete waiver forms will result in your application being rejected.

The 1st Psycho-Oncology Conference in Georgia was held on Saturday, April 2, 2022. The conference was opened by a presentation by Dr. Tom Hack, President of IPOS.
The conference was attended by clinical oncologists, radiologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and oncology nurses. The main goal of the meeting was:

Founder and CEO of ART2CARE Program, the first Art Therapy program in the Middle East dedicated to children with cancer, and their families, launched in Cairo, Egypt in 2013 at 57357 hospital. ART2CARE Program has provided Art As Therapy to children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer, and a year later it was successfully introduced to children with life threatening diseases. In the past 9 years, Dr. Elewah has presented her program in over 70 international conferences, organized over 200 training workshops, participated in over 50 exhibitions, and conducted over 1000 art therapy sessions with population in need.
Dr. Elewah is holder of PhD in Healthcare Environmental Management from USA, OIDA Psychotherapy Diploma from Bulgaria, Introduction and Foundation Diploma in Art Therapy from Ireland, Therapeutic Arts Practitioner and Expressive Arts Therapist from Canadian International Institute for Art Therapy CiiAT.
Dr. Elewah values art as a means to assist/heal/support individuals in dealing with complex and confusing emotional issues. She has also worked at orphanage where her passion for children led her to provide art as therapy and conduct case studies for children dealing with the uncertainties. She provided Art As Therapy to children and families dealing with grief, loss, and changes in family dynamics. She continues to help children deal with the realities of painful medical procedures, using Art As Therapy to develop emotional strength and stability.
It is our pleasure to invite you/your organization to participate in an international online survey of psychosocial care for cancer survivors that is being conducted by the Survivorship Special Interest Group under the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS).
The aim of this international survey is to identify barriers, facilitators and examples of good practice in different global settings. Thus, we are interested in knowing more about whether psychosocial care is available to cancer survivors in your country and how it is provided.
Information from this survey will be a unique resource for healthcare providers, researchers and policy-makers in the development and implementation of models of psychosocial care that may improve the psychosocial outcomes of cancer survivors globally.

DR. MARIA MADELINE BAYLON-MALLILLIN, is a psychiatrist and a medical acupuncturist practicing in the Philippines. She is currently the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry of Asian Hospital and Medical Center, part of the Supportive and Integrative Services of Asian Cancer Institute, and Head of Psycho-oncology Service of the Cancer Institute of St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City.
Dr. Mallillin has been drawn to cancer patients and their families even during her residency training in Psychiatry. Hence, she decided to do a Clinical Observer-ship in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after finishing her fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine of the University of the Philippines. She dedicated most of her time in psych-oncology work when she returned to the Philippines in 2006. She has been doing clinical work, lectures and trainings, as well as advocacy programs in the field of psycho-oncology since. Dr. Mallillin has been an IPOS member since 2006. She is currently a part of the IPOS Palliative Care SIG and the Education SIG and believes that by educating the community and creating awareness, cancer care and services, especially psycho-social services, can be improved and be brought to areas that are difficult to access.
Aside from her work in the medical field, Dr. Mallillin loves to knit and travel with her family and friends. She is a foodie and loves to try delicacies in different parts of her country and the world.
Currently a student of Psychology, Adrian Pogacian has a PhD in History. He is interested in developing the Psycho-Oncology field of research in Romania, as well as in Eastern Europe. He launched ReThinking Cancer, a regional non-profit, non-partisan and politically independent think tank, based in Tîrgu-Mureş, Romania. ReThinking Cancer's work focuses on the following topics: Psycho-Oncology and Health Security.
Adrian Pogacian’s fields of interests are: Fear of Cancer Recurrence, Social Acceptance of Cancer Patients and Educational Psychology.

The e-health and survivors Special Interest Groups (SIG) of IPOS are organizing this webinar hosted by the Co-Chairs of the IPOS e-health SIG, Tania Estapé and Claire Foster. Prof Gabriella Pravettoni received her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1996 and subsequently completed her specialization in Psychotherapy at the Associazione per lo Sviluppo Psicologico dell’Individuo e della Comunità –ASPIC (Rome).
She is currently Full Professor of General Psychology at the Medical Faculty (Dept. Of Oncology and Haemato-oncology) at the University of Milan, Director of the Psychoncology Division and Director of the No Smoking Center at the European Institute of Oncology (EIO) in Milan, where she leads a team of 32 psychologists whose mission is to give support to oncological patients, their families and caregivers.
She is Coordinator of Psychology training and development at LILT Nazionale, Italian Cancer League, Coordinator of Doctorate in Medical Humanities (Foundations of the life Sciences and their ethical consequences) at SEMM (European School of Molecular Medicine), Milan.
She is also Past Director of the Medical Faculty (Dept. Of Oncology and Haemato-oncology) at the University of Milan.
She is the Principal investigator of 3 European projects and member of the Editorial Board of several Scientific Journals.
She has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and is the main author/co-author of 50 books.
Her research activities are almost entirely conducted at the EIO, at both national and international level, with focus on cognitive processes, decision-making and error prevention, with particular attention to the medical field, medical humanities, health, and centrality of patient.
