Sunday, 21 June 2009 - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Woet L. Gianotten MD

Only in English / Ausschließlich auf Englisch

Target Audience:

All onco-professionals who are verbally dealing with the patient and/or partner, from the areas of psychology, nursing, social work, medical & paramedical.

Workshop Objectives:

The attendees will be able to:

  • Increase knowledge regarding the influence of cancer and its treatment on sexuality and the intimate relationship.
  • Increase (or develop) the skills to "talk sex" with cancer patients (and partners) and to deal with various sexual problems after cancer treatment.
  • Increase (or develop) the competence to discuss sexuality within a treatment team.
  • Become part of the process of developing an approach where sexuality is an integrated part of cancer care.

Workshop Description:

There will be only one presenter.  The physical arrangement of the workshop will change frequently and alternate between three different components.

  • Plenary / interactive pieces (which will take 35% of the total time).
Here participants will not be consumers, but part of the process.
  • Small one-way presentations (taking 30% of the time). Scientific data will only be delivered when relevant for the direct patient-professional interaction. This part will be in English.
  • Small-group exercises (taking 35%). Everyone joining the workshop has to participate in role-playing with regularly changing positions (as professional, patient or observer providing feedback). Depending on the composition of the group, these exercises can be done in the attendees' own languages.
